How to Analyze Your Coinbase Trading Performance

Your exchange shows you balances and fills. It doesn't show you whether you're actually making good decisions. Here's what to look for — and how to get it from a single CSV export.

Why your Coinbase dashboard isn't enough

Coinbase shows your portfolio balance, recent transactions, and a simple P&L figure. What it doesn't show is the quality of your decision-making. A rising balance can mask poor trade selection if the market itself is rising. A flat balance can hide improving discipline if the market is falling.

To understand whether you're getting better as a trader, you need metrics that isolate your behavior from market direction — and those metrics live inside your trade history, not your balance sheet. The exchange has no incentive to surface them; a confused trader trades more.

What's inside a Coinbase CSV export

Coinbase lets you export your full transaction history as a CSV file. Each row records a transaction: the asset, the amount, the price, the fee, and a timestamp. Individually, these rows are just data.

Aggregated and analyzed correctly, they reveal your complete trading fingerprint — every entry, every exit, every cost basis, and every timing decision you've made across the entire history of your account. The information is already there. The exchange just doesn't assemble it for you.

The four metrics that actually matter

01

True win rate

Not the percentage of trades that closed green, but the percentage that outperformed a simple buy-and-hold over the same holding period. A 60% win rate means nothing if the market doubled while you held.

02

Realized entry prices

What you actually paid, including fees and slippage — not what the chart showed when you clicked buy. This is the number your future self will judge you on.

03

Drawdown profile

The depth and duration of your equity troughs. This tells you whether your strategy survives bad stretches or folds under pressure.

04

Behavioral patterns

Your trading frequency by day and hour, your concentration in specific assets, and whether you tend to chase or fade momentum. Invisible in a raw trade log, obvious once aggregated.

How the CSV digestor works
